Intro 1: Classroom Expectation & All About You

Completion requirements
Receive a grade

 Welcome to BIOLOGY A!

NOTE: Please complete part 1 and part 2, then submit the assignment. It may take you some time to finish the work, please save the draft, Moodle also has an auto save feature, so you can complete the assignment in more than one sitting.  Please write title of each assignment. The assignment is graded only once.

Part 1: Class room expectations:

  • When you email me please include your full official name, as registered in the Genius, the course name, and the Moodle link for assignment related questions. This information really helps me in answering your questions quickly. Please be mindful of the fact that I teach many courses and I have many students in each course. Not providing this information will delay my response to you.

  • All students including the returning students are expected to login to Moodle and start the course by doing all assignments in the introduction unit. You will not have access to the entire course unless you start in the Introduction block. That is how you are grouped in the class.

  • Plan and manage your time according to the end date of the course. Check the Genius for your end date.  Use the checklist (available on the Moodle main course page, just above the Introduction block.) and grade book to track your progress. Any assignment that has not been submitted will be given zero score in your final grade calculation.

  • There are no due dates for assignments, it is a self paced course (work any time any where). Each assignment is broken into parts, you may work on each part in one sitting. You are expected to submit some work every week (Either an assignment or lesson or quiz.). If you are unable to do that and you have done only one or two parts, then you need to email me and explain the reason. You can move ahead in the course, but your final grades will be posted near the end date.  I update the progress status in Genius every week on Tuesday morning. The work turned in by 3:00 pm on Monday will go into the Tuesday morning's weekly progress report. If you turn in work after that, then it will go into the following week's progress report. Typically you will see your progress status as “Ok” or “MW(Missing Work)” or “NR(Non Responsive)”. The total number of assignments that you see in the Genius is incorrect. This is a technical issue and NSO is working to resolve it.

  • Please read your assignment carefully and submit it after you complete all sections of the assignment. I  grade assignments only once for full points. For any re-submission or re-grading, you will receive an average score of submitted assignments.

  • I try to grade your work as soon as possible. You should inquire about your submitted work only after five business days and include the Moodle link of the assignment in your email.

  • Final Grade Submission and Course Completion Email: Please send me an email when you complete the course. I work on your grades, after I receive the the course completion  email from you.If you turn in majority of your work in the last week of the course, then the late work policy would apply.  You may not receive any feedback or full points on your assignments  and your final grade submission may be delayed by few weeks. Please consider the fact that your teacher needs some time to grade the work of all students.

  • If you cannot finish the course for some reason, your work will remain saved at NSO. You can come back and finish the course later. You may have to do some extra Introduction assignments for returning students and there may be some minor updates in the course.

  • The end date extension is only in exceptional cases, please contact your school counselor first, then inform me and NSO about the extended date. I am unable to extend your end date without counselor's approval.
